Library orientation and instruction sessions are available to all UMMC students, faculty and staff.  Classes are given for individual or groups, with content tailored for the individual or academic program needs. Course Offerings

Evidence-Based Practice Provides an introduction to the concepts and process of applying EBP to patient care.  This hands-on session can be focused for medical, dental, nursing or allied health groups. 
PubMed-Basics Provides instruction on general searching in PubMed.  Topics covered will include developing effective search strategies, general searches, limiting your searches, clinical queries, and accessing full-text articles via PubMed. 
Advanced PubMed/MEDLINE Intended for researchers who want to learn more advanced search techniques. Instruction includes harnessing the MESH vocabulary for specific retrieval, creating a My NCBI account for saved searches and automated updates, using Clinical Queries, searching specific fields (PMID) and more.
CINAHL and Resources for Nursing An introduction to searching for nursing information in various databases.  This hands-on session offers participants exercises in searching CINAHL, Health Source, Cochrane, DARE, Academic Search Premier, Master File Premier, Health & Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI) and the nursing subset in PubMed.
Citation Analysis Discover who is citing you, who is cited the most in your field, and which journals in your field have the highest impact factor. Features of Journal Citation Reports and Scopus will be examined.
Psychology and Social Sciences Databases Introduces the searcher to the major databases specific to psychology, mental health and the behavioral sciences.
¿No Comprende? An introduction to finding and using consumer health information sources available in Spanish.  The course includes cultural competence, an introduction to the Spanish alphabet and language,and health resources  which are available in English and Spanish.
Healthcare Mobile Apps Workshop on accessing specific library resources and various free health care applications on your mobile device.
EndNote Made Easy Workshop explains how to import your citations into EndNote, how to format them and how to create groups.
Library Life Lessons A basic library skills workshop for UMMC administrative staff.  Topics covered include: catalog, basic searching on PubMed, accessing full-text journal articles, placing holds on books or journals, and using interlibrary loan.
Distance Education Tutorial A powerpoint tutorial to help distance education students get started using the library.  Topics covered include: catalog, basic searching on PubMed, accessing full-text journal articles, placing holds on books or journals, and using interlibrary loan.
