Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical LibraryGrowth hormone deficiency is generally treated during childhood. Only recently has the importance of growth hormone in adults been recognized.  Some problems resulting from growth hormone deficiency in adults are changes in body composition, reduced exercise capacity, impaired quality of life, and cardiovascular dysfunction.  The most common causes of adult growth hormone deficiency are pituitary and peripituitary tumors, the effects of treating one of these tumors, or problems with blood supply to the pituitary.  Once diagnosis is established, replacement of growth hormone may be indicated.
