BREAST CANCER

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library.  Breast cancer is the presence of abnormal cells in the breast that grow and replace normal tissue and that can eventually, lead to death. In fact, breast cancer is the number two cause of all cancer deaths in US women today.  The incidence of breast cancer has  increased so that today the lifetime risk for a woman  in the US to develop breast cancer by the age of 85 is one in nine.  Breast cancer is treatable but early detection is important for successful outcome.  New drugs, technology and preventive measures are improving treatments and outcomes in breast cancer.
