Hormone Replacement Therapy
This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. Hormone replacement therapy involves using estrogen or combination estrogen/progestin medication to alleviate the symptoms of menopause in women and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. The symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, and vaginal irritation. Recent studies have questioned the long term effects of hormone replacement therapy, including increased incidence of breast cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke, thromboembolic events, and cholecystitis.
