Medical Tests

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the  Rowland Medical Library.  Medical tests have been widely used in health sciences for various purposes such as identifying specific pathogens or monitoring physiopathological changes in the body.   Interpretation of the test results helps health care providers make decisions in the establishment of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.  Medical tests include biochemical analysis of body fluids, pathological analysis of the tissues and cells, immunological analysis of pathogenesis, concentration analysis of drugs in blood serums, genetic analysis of DNA, etc.  Generally, the simplest least-expensive and least-invasive tests are performed first.  If these do not lead to a diagnosis, or are not satisfactory, other tests are ordered.
