Nursing Theory
This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. A theory is a model that accounts for some phenomenon; therefore, a nursing theory describes or explains a phenomenon in nursing. Nursing theories are used to describe, develop, disseminate, and use current knowledge in nursing. Nursing theories provide answers to nursing questions and guidance to nursing practice. There is debate among scholars and practitioners concerning the theory-practice gap. The theory practice gap describes the discrepancies between nursing theory and practice. Although this debate still exists, nursing theory has become a more widely accepted concept in recent years.
