Palliative Care

This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library.  The goal of palliative care is to provide terminally ill patients relief from symptoms and pain.  Palliative care does not treat the disease, but instead seeks to improve the quality of life for dying patients. Palliative care is also concerned with psychosocial issues that face terminally ill patients and their families. Physicians, nurses, social workers, clergy, therapists, dietitians, and others are involved in a multidisciplinary approach to palliative care.  Now terminally ill patients have more control over treatment decisions than ever before.  Many patients choose to spend the end stages of life in a hospice or at home rather than a traditional inpatient hospital setting.
