Telemedicine
This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. Telemedicine is the use of electronic information or technology to deliver health care from one site distant from another. The technology employed may encompass anything from the telephone, facsimile machine or computer to satellites and videoconferencing. The term has evolved to include a wide variety of technologies, modalities, settings and applications. Most popularily, telemedicine denotes electronic consultation, diagnosis, treatment, and continuing education. Other terms commonly found to describe aspects of telemedicine are telenursing, telematics, and telehealth. Today there is renewed interest in funding research projects for evidence on the efficacy of various telemedicine applications in health care.
