UMMC Student Offsite Access
Rowland Medical Library can provide copies of journal articles and book chapters in the library’s collection for students who meet the offsite student qualifications. To receive the Library’s offsite services, students must be currently enrolled, taking at least one class (online or off-campus), and live at least 35 miles from campus. Students must also complete the Verification Form for each semester they qualify. There is a charge of $3.21 per article or chapter in the library’s collection for the first 20 pages and then .15 cents for each additional page. Payment may be made by check or credit card.
Once students have been notified regarding verification, they may request items via the photocopy request form for offsite students. Requested journal articles or book chapters, not available electronically from Rowland, will be scanned and e-mailed. If Rowland Medical Library does not own the article or chapter, students may request it through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan requires that patrons agree to pay any cost of a lending library’s fees on the photocopy request form that is over $15.00.* (Most requests are filled for $11.00, so UMMC will pay for these. If you need to order an entire book for your research, ask your local library to order this for you using the Interlibrary Loan system.
*UMMC Students are only charged for cost of the interlibrary loan if they are in a graduate school program. Students in their terminal degree program or bachelor’s degree program are not charged for interlibrary loan services.
WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "Fair Use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the request would involve violation of copyright law.
