Welcome!
You are invited to join us at the 54th Annual Meeting of the Southern Chapter/Medical Library Association, October 21-25, in historic Biloxi, the city of antebellum charm and Gulf Coast cuisine where history and hospitality blend.
The Program Committee has planned two contributed paper sessions, a poster session and three general educational sessions. Several full day and half day CE courses scheduled for Friday, October 22 are offered by the Professional Development Committee. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the special six-hour leadership symposium entitled “Manage Your Time, People, Money, Projects and Stress” on Monday, October 25. Pat Wagner of Denver, CO, who presents over 100 programs each year throughout the United States, will present this practical program in an entertaining and insightful manner. We invite you to learn from our speakers: Dr. Herman Taylor, Director of the Jackson Heart Study, and our own T. Scott Plutchak, an expert on the ever-changing publishing industry.
Our convention hotel, the Grand Casino’s Bayview Resort & Spa, is on the Gulf, minutes from the regional airport. Do not miss the welcome reception on the hotel’s poolside terrace featuring special entertainment. Our banquet will be held at the renowned Mary Mahoney’s Old French House, built in 1737, oak shaded with exposed brick walls, heart-pine floors, and open fireplaces. Delicious seafood and prime rib will be served in an atmosphere of casual elegance.
You may want to come early or stay late and register for a wide array of local tours to take full advantage of this section of the Gulf Coast with 26 miles of white-sand beaches. One may ferry to the barrier islands to view sea turtles, herons and egrets and cruise on shrimp boats or on the historical oyster schooners. Or shop ‘til you drop at stores ranging from antiques to flea markets, specialty shops to outlet malls or play on one of twenty public golf courses.
So join us for a relaxing, entertaining, and informative occasion as we “Up the Ante” to connect, collaborate and communicate.
We look forward to seeing you!
